Route Description
From Seaton Burn, head to Ponteland via the Old Great North Road and Berwick Hill Road.
In Ponteland, turn left onto North Road. At the roundabout, take the first exit (A696) to cross the River Pont and immediately turn right onto Callerton Lane (B6323).
Follow the B6323 to the T-junction and turn right on the B6324 towards Stamfordham.
After approximately 5km turn left (signposted for Wylam) to join the Military Road/B6318 heading west.
Continue on the Military Road/B6318 through Chollerford to Greenhead. Coffee stop – Greenhead Tea Rooms. (43 miles.)
Turn right onto B6318. Follow the B6318 through Gilsland and Kirkcambeck to Roadhead.
Once through Roadhead, at the end of the long straight, take the road straight ahead to Newcastleton via Blackpool Gate and crossing into Scotland at Kershope Burn.
In Newcastleton, turn right onto the South Hermitage Street/B6357. After 0.3 miles, turn left at the Police Station towards Newcastleton Golf Course.
Follow the single-track road with passing places to Langholm.
Once in Langholm, turn left onto the A7. Follow the road through Langholm to the filling station on the right. (78 miles.)
Leave the petrol station heading north-west, briefly retracing your steps, turning left at the bridge onto Thomas Telford Road/B709.
Follow the B709 through Bentpath, Eskdalemuir. Shortly after Angecroft Caravan Park, follow the B709 right along the banks of Ettrick Water.
Continue along the B709, eventually joining the B7009 at Kirkhope Farm Cottages.
Turn left onto the B7039, crossing the bridge over Ettrick Water, and follow the road to the junction with the A708.
Turn right onto the A708. After approximately 0.9 miles, turn right into the Philiphaugh Estate and the Waterwheel Restaurant. (122 miles.)
On leaving the Waterwheel Restaurant, turn right onto the A708.
Turn right through Selkirk on the A707 and follow the A7 to Hawick.
Stay on the A7 through Hawick town centre to join Mart Street/A698 (towards Jedburgh and Kelso). After 1.4 mile, turn right on the A6088 to Bonchester Bridge.
Continue on the A6088 to the junction with the A68. Turn right towards Newcastle, continuing on the A696 through Otterburn to Ponteland.
Once in Ponteland, take the first exit at the roundabout onto North Road and retrace steps onto Berwick Hill Road and Old Great North Road back to Seaton Burn Services. (198 miles.)
